Year: 1989-91
Model: Legend, NSX
VIN Application: Specific

November 1990

Dear Acura Owner:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Honda Motor Co. Ltd. has determined, based on advice from TRW, its airbag module manufacturer, that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in the airbag on certain 1989 and 1990 model year Acura Legends and 1991 model year Acura NSX vehicles. The airbag modules in a small number of these vehicles are defective and the initiator housing may separate from the adaptor during deployment. If this occurs, the airbag will not inflate properly during a crash, increasing the risk of injury. In addition, the escaping hot gases could cause burns.

Vehicles Affected

Only vehicles with specific VINs are affected by this recall. Please complete our VIN Status Request Form and we will gladly check to see if this campaign needs to be completed on your vehicle.

If you own one of these cars we recommend that you limit the use of your car until the airbag module has been replaced. If you have not already been contacted by phone, please call your local Acura dealer and make an appointment with the Service Department to have the airbag module replaced immediately. The work will be performed free of charge. Parts are now available. Although the repair will take only about half an hour, please plan on leaving your car at the dealership for half a day to allow the dealer some flexibility in scheduling other customers.

It has been determined that a problem may exist with your car’s distributor, a part in the ignition system. Moisture may collect inside the distributor after the engine is turned off and allowed to sit for a period of time. If this happens, the moisture can cut the flow of current to the spark plugs and the engine will not start.

Who to contact if you experience problems.
