NSX Fiesta 2010

What is NSX Fiesta? Why are people going?

NSX Fiesta is an annual two-day event put on by Honda Japan for Japanese NSX owners. For 2010 the NSX Club of Japan (NSXCJ) has worked with Honda to invite western NSX owners to attend NSX Fiesta for a special celebration of the 20th anniversary of the introduction of the NSX, first produced in 1990 (as a 1991 model year car in the US).

NSX Fiesta vs. Tour

The official NSX Fiesta event is just two days (Nov 21-22). Hirofumi Tomiyoshi, president of the NSX Club of Japan, helping coordinate tours and activities for interested guests during the rest of the week (see itinerary below). This is completely optional. Attendees can attend just NSX Fiesta if they prefer. Anyone skipping the tour is responsible for all of their own travel arrangements to get to Suzuka and then back home.

Are you traveling solo and are looking to share expenses?

Some Members may be traveling solo and may wish to share expenses by sharing hotel rooms while in Japan. If you are seeking to share expenses and are looking for a roommate, please post in this thread: http://www.nsxprime.com/forums/showthread.php?t=134919
Please also note that Honda is making the arrangements for the hotel at the track and there are no single rooms available. As a result of the large size of our group, it will become necessary to have shared rooms at the track so it would make sense for “singles” to try to pair up in advance to accommodate any personal preferences such as if someone is a smoker. In the event that “perfect matches” are unable to be made, it would be appreciated that if a smoker must be paired with a non-smoker that the smoker kindly not smoke in the room as a courtesy to your roommate.
HOTELS IN KYOTO
We are traveling to and through Kyoto during peak travel time and hotel rooms are scarce. Hirofumi was successful in booking 30 rooms at the Hotel Granvia and for those of you prone to sticker shock and who have not traveled abroad be aware that depending upon the currency exchange each room night in Kyoto may be approximately $400 USD. We suggest that solo travelers who must have a roommate for Suzuka anyway use the same roommate for Kyoto to split the expense.

Dates and Deadlines

  • July 2010 – Estimated date when Honda will announce the official NSX Fiesta event schedule
  • August 31, 2010 -Estimated date for registration with Honda for the official NSX Fiesta weekend event. Registration for all western guests will be coordinated through the NSX Club of Japan.
  • November 16, 2010 – Westerners attending the full week tour arrive in Tokyo (if flying from this US, this means you must depart on Nov 15!)
  • November 21, 2010 – Official NSX Fiesta event begins in Suzuka.
  • November 22, 2010 – Official NSX Fiesta event ends in the afternoon
  • November 23, 2010 – Westerners attending the full week tour fly home

Approximate Costs (all US$)

These are all rough costs. Your actual cost will of course vary depending on changes in airfare and hotel pricing, whether you select more or less expensive lodging and meals, the USD/JPY exchange rate, etc.
$8,00 – $1,300 round trip to Tokyo from most major hub airports in the US
$65 – $75 Airport transportation
Need to add:

  • NSX Fiesta registration fee
  • Hotels (3 nights Tokyo, 2 nights Kyoto, one night Tokyo/Narita or Osaka)
  • Estimated meals
  • Charter buses
  • Tours and entry fees
  • Trains (local; Tokyo to Kyoto; Nagoya to Tokyo/Narita or Osaka)

We will be traveling from Tokyo to Kyoto on the “bullet train”. Assuming we take the fastest bullet train (apparently bullets can go different speeds in Japan) the fare from Shinagawa to Kyoto on the Nozomi (the fastest of the fast) is 13,520Y per adult and it is half price for children. [Basic fare: 7,980 yen + Express Surcharge (during regular season periods): 5,540 yen ]
We will be traveling to Suzuka by bus from Kyoto and anticipate coming back on the bullet train from Nagoya. The current fare from Nagoya – Tokyo is 10,780Y per adult. [Basic fare: 6,090 yen + Express Surcharge (during regular season periods): 4,690 yen ]
(The child price is half of the adult price, with amounts of five yen or less rounded off.) The basic fare would involve a “local train” which is not something any of us would want to be on for that distance.
Based upon a conversion (as of March 2010) of 90Y per USD, the approximate cost of the bullet train would be $270 for the round trip.

BULLET TRAIN TO/FROM KYOTO

In order to reduce the cost of the Bullet Train, Hirofumi will be booking us as a group and the price will be included in the overall fee for the event. If anyone is purchasing a Rail Pass, please let us know so that the fees may be adjusted as necessary.
